Duplicates
Another fantastic idea is—duplicates. It's fine to have one desk-lamp say that you carry from room to room. But imagine having a desk-lamp on your desk, a desk lamp on your other desk, a desk-lamp on your bed-side table, and a floor lamp even by the couch. Can you see how incredible that could be? Instead of plugging out the one desk-lamp you have and bringing it here & there & up & down the stairs & plugging it in & out you would simply go to wherever you wished to read etc and turn the already present lamp on. I have tried this myself at home so I'm not just speaking speculatively. It has revolutionized my life. There's still one glitch in that I put one of the new desk-lamps on my daughter's desk. My daughter is at college. Meanwhile I'm soldiering on with my old bed-side lamp which has to be plugged in & out because the on/off switch is broken. I decided to borrow my daughter's desk-lamp when she was away. The first time I used it I couldn't believe it! There I was bending down to plug in the sucker as usual when it hit me: Not necessary!!!!! Now whenever I hear she's coming home I just swiftly switch lamps. In a sense it's almost as if the lamp has been standing quietly on her desk all the time, waiting for the touch of her white hand. There's something very restful about that.
